Brendan trained as a tailor and has been designing and crafting handmade, collectible bears since December 2006. Brendan's bears are usually made from mohair, have suede, ultra suede, reversed mohair or felt paw pads, are filled with heavyweight polyester and are often partly plastic pellet, glass bead or steel shot filled.
Each one-of-a-kind bear is traditionally constructed with glass eyes and cotterpin joints and, therefore, not recommended for people under 14 years of age. You will notice that each bear has a descriptive title rather than a name because Brendan believes each bear should be named by its new owner. All of Brendan's bears are made to consistently high standards of craftsmanship, with great attention to detail, resulting in unique characters to treasure for years to come.
Brendan is a Member of the Guild of Master Bearcrafters. Brendan is delighted to have won First Prize with 'Old Shortbread Bear' in category 2 (6 to 15 inches undressed) of the British Bear Artist Awards 2010 held in Brighton, England on 12th December. 'Old Shortbread Bear' is made from beige, sparse, Schulte mohair and has fawn, ultra suede paw pads, black, English glass eyes and is five way loosely jointed. With a partly glass bead filled body, he is stuffed with heavyweight polyester and has been deliberately aged and distressed to give him that much loved look.
Doug's Bears is pleased to be the exclusive representative of Brendan's Bears in North America.
